Three Mustangs Honored by NFCA
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State University placed a total of three players, including one first-team selection, on the 2007 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association South Central All-Region Team announced Thursday.
Third baseman Kristen Stonecipher earned first team All-Region, pitcher Katie Petersen and catcher Lindsey Voigt were chosen second team All-Region.
Stonecipher, a junior from Flower Mound, is batting a team best .395, with 13 doubles eight homeruns, and is the team leader in RBI's with 50. This post season already she has earned second team All-Lone Star Conference North Team, as well as All-LSC Tournament Team.
Petersen, a freshman from Plano, is 25-11 with four saves, and a 2.00 ERA. She had 232 strikeouts, and a school record nine shutouts this season. Petersen was also named first team All-LSC North, LSC North Freshman of the Year, and All-LSC Tournament Team.
Voigt, a junior from Wichita Falls/Rider, is batting .377 with eight doubles, two triples, and eight homeruns, while collecting 35 RBIs and 10 stolen bases, in her first season behind the plate for the Mustangs. She has earned first team All-LSC North Team, and LSC Tournament MVP.
MSU (39-14, 18-6) is the top seed in the South Central Region, and well play the fourth seed, St. Edward's University, in their second game of the South Central Regional Championship Tournament. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. Friday from the ASU Softball Complex in San Angelo.
