WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State University Athletic Department announced the promotion of Bill Powers to Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing, Promotions and Public Relations effective June 1.
Powers has been the sports information director for MSU since August 2005.
In the new position, Powers will be responsible for continuing the marketing program for MSU Athletics, along with promotions and special projects, website development and broadcasting initiatives for the Mustangs.
Additionally, Powers will continue to serve as one of the key announcers for MSU broadcasts.
"I am pleased to have Bill on my staff and to allow him to move into a greater role within the MSU Athletic Administration," said MSU Athletic Director Ed Harris. "His experience, talent and reputation are highly valued in the Lone Star Conference and in NCAA Division II."

An award-winning broadcaster as well, Powers won the 1988 Lone Star Conference Jake Trussell Award as broadcaster of the year while sports director at then East Texas State University's (now A&M-Commerce's) KETR-FM.
Powers earned his bachelor's degree in radio-television from Arkansas State University in 1980 and his master's degree in kinesiology and sport studies from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2005.
"I want to thank Ed for this opportunity and his mentorship," Powers stated. "I love Midwestern State and Wichita Falls and I'm excited about advancing MSU Athletics."
Powers and his wife Rhonda, a school teacher, are the parents of two sons, Bill Jr., and Texas.
A national search to fill the vacant sports information director's position will begin immediately.
