Mustangs Men fall in LSC Tennis Championship
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla . - The No. 29 Midwestern State University Mustangs went the distance, but fell in the final two singles matches of the day as the No. 28 Abilene Christian University Wildcats claimed the Lone Star Conference Men's Tennis Championship 5-4 Friday morning at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
MSU (11-9) fell behind early in the match to the Wildcats (24-9).
After All-Americans Brett Emerson and Zac Dillard beat George Carstens and Bryce Hicks at number one 8-6, the Cats took the other two doubles points.
ACU's Kevin Beedy and Ryan Hudson downed Charles van Swelm and Fernando Villarreal at number two 8-5, while Juan Nunez and Luke Hawk beat Stefan McKinney and Travis Stegner 8-5 at number three.
But the Mustangs made a comeback in the singles.
Emerson, ranked 17th nationally, beat 45th ranked Nunez 6-2, 6-2 at number one, while Dillard defeated Beedy 6-2, 6-2 at number four and Stegner downed Hicks 6-0, 6-3 at number six.
ACU's Hudson beat van Swelm 6-1, 6-1 at number two as MSU maintained a 4-3 advanage.
Buit the Wildcat's Carsten came from behind to beat McKinney 7-5, 6-3 and Hawk defeat Villarreal 6-4, 6-3 as those matches ended simulateously to give ACU it's fifth LSC crown in six years.
