Mustangs fifth after opening day at WTAMU Invitational

            AMARILLO, Texas - The Midwestern State University Mustangs had an up-and-down day at the LaPaloma Country Club as they stand fifth after the first two rounds of the West Texas A&M Men's Invitational.

            MSU had team rounds of 302 and 313 to total 615 after the opening two rounds of the tournament played on Monday.  MSU is five shots behind Texas A&M-Commerce at 302-308--610 in fourth place heading into the final round.

            Western New Mexcio leads the tournament at 588, while host West Texas A&M is two behind at 590 and Southeastern Oklahoma State is third at 603.

            MSU has two players in the top 20, with junior Gordon Quebodeaux firing rounds of 75 and 77 to stand in a tie for 13th at 10-over-par 152, while junior Brady Jones is tied for 17th after rounds of 73 and 80 for a 153.

            Freshman Logan Scarlett is 22nd overall at 12-over 155 with rounds of 81 and 74 on the day.  Freshman Eric Thompson posted counting rounds of 77 and 82 for a 159, while junior Hunter Linscomb put up a 77-84--161.

            West Texas A&M's Kent Neal used the home course advantage to fire and even-par 71 and a two-under 69 to lead the tournament at two-under 140, the only player in red numbers.  Western New Mexico's Eric Chaves and Southeastern's Brad Aycock stand a three-over 145 in second.

            The tournament concludes on Tuesday with a single 18 hole round.
