Mustangs Crack NFCA Top 25
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - For the first time this season, the Midwestern State University Mustangs have jumped into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25.
MSU (37-14) joined the ranks for the first time this week at number 15, tied with Kutztown (Pa.).
It's the first time this season that coach Brady Tigert's squad has cracked the poll after spending most of the 2006 season ranked nationally, peaking a number six.
Columbus State (Ga.) is the number one team in the nation at 48-2, while defending national champion Lock Haven (Pa.) is second with a 37-2 record. Humboldt State (Calif.) (47-6) is ranked third, with Angelo State (42-6) fourth and Valdosta State (Ga.) (38-4) fifth.
Emporia State (Kan.) (38-8) is ranked sixth, followed by Cal State-Stanislaus (43-9), Lewis (Ill.) (27-8), LIU-C.W. Post (N.Y.) (31-11) and Alabama-Huntsville (39-13).
MSU concludes the regular season Saturday as it opens the new Mustangs Park against Southwestern Oklahoma State in a Lone Star Conference North doubleheader. Pregame ceremonies will begin about 2:50 p.m., followed by the first pitch at 3 p.m.
