MSU Women meet St. Edward's in NCAA Regional
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State University women's tennis team has drawn St. Edward's University in the first round of the 2007 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships next week.
No. 26 MSU, officially 14-9 on the season, carries the number six seed in the tournament. The Mustangs face the third-seeded and 17th ranked Hilltoppers (11-4) at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 3 in the Central 2 Regional at Abilene Christian's Eager Tennis Pavilion in Abilene.
The winner advances to face the winner of second-seeded and sixth ranked Abilene Christian (21-5) and number seven seed Cameron (17-7), ranked 29th nationally, on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
It's the 10th consecutive season that MSU has competed in the NCAA Tournament.
MSU lost to St. Ed's 5-1 on April 14, beat Cameron 5-4 on April 2 and lost to Abilene Christian 9-0 on March 21.
In the Central 1 Regional in Tahlequah, Okla., top seed Northeastern State (15-1) faces eighth-seeded Southeastern Oklahoma State (13-6), while fourth-seeded East Central (16-6) meets fifth-seeded Tarleton State (11-7), with the winners meeting in the Central 1 final.
The winners of both sub regionals advance on opposite sides of the bracket to the round of 16 at the NCAA Division II Championships starting May 9 through May 12 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
