MSU Places Fourth at WTAMU Invitational

            AMARILLO, Texas - The Midwestern State University Mustangs battled chilly and windy conditions to post a final round 309 and finish fourth at 924 in the West Texas A&M Men's Invitational at the LaPaloma Country Tuesday.

            With temperatures in the low 60s and north winds gusting over 30 miles and hour, junior Hunter Linscomb shot the best score of the final round with a one-over-par 72 to lead the Mustangs to the third best team round of the day and fourth just five strokes behind third place Southeastern Oklahoma State's 919, but 11 stokes better than fifth place Texas A&M-Commerce.  Western New Mexico won the team event with an 888, with host West Texas A&M placing second at 896.

            MSU junior Brady Jones, who was 17th after the first two rounds, carded a seven-over 78 to finish 14th at 231, while Linscomb's final round made him the second-best among the Mustangs for the tournament, placing 18th at 233.

            Freshman Logan Scarlett posted an 81 to total 236, while freshman Eric Thompson also fired a 78 to stand at 237.  Junior Gordon Quebodeaux, who led MSU after the first two rounds, blew up with an 86 in the final 18 to finish at 238.

            West Texas A&M's Kent Neal won the individual title with a five-over-par 218, with Western New Mexico's Eric Chavez second at seven-over 220 and WT's Greg Musser in third at eight-over 221.

            The Mustangs are off until they battle for the Lone Star Conference Championship April 16-17 at Bear Creek Golf Club at DFW Airport.  It's the first time MSU will play for the LSC golf title.
