No. 24 MSU Draws Three Seed in South Central Region
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The 24th ranked Midwestern State University Mustangs, the champions of the Lone Star Conference, were handed the number three seed in the South Central Region for the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championships that start next Saturday.
MSU (23-6) will face the South Central number six seed, West Texas A&M (18-10) in the first round of the tournament that will be played at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo.The game is the first of the tourney and will be played at 12 noon on Saturday.
Regional host No. 10 Central Missouri (27-3), the champions of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, is the number one seed, with ninth ranked Southeastern Oklahoma State (25-4), the LSC North winner and LSC runnerup, getting the region's number two seed. No. 13 Northwest Missouri State (23-6) was awarded the region's fourth seed.
Pittsburg State ( Kan.) (18-12), the surprise MIAA finalist beating Northwest Missouri in the MIAA semis, is the fifth seed, followed by WT in sixth, Emporia State ( Kan.) (21-7) seventh and Heartland Conference champion St. Edward's (24-5) the eighth seed.
After the MSU-WT regional quarterfinal on Saturday, Southeastern faces Emporia State at 2:30 on Saturday.The night session features Central Missouri and St. Edward's at 6 p.m. and Northwest Missouri against Pitt State at 8:30.
The regional semifinals pair the MSU-WT winner against the SOSU-ESU winner at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, with the UCM-SEU winner against the NWMSU-PSU winner at 7:30 p.m.
The regional championship game is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13.
The NCAA Division II Tournament is made up of 64 teams competing through eight regions to advance to the Elite Eight in Springfield, Mass., on March 21, 22 and 24.The national semifinals on Thursday, March 22 will be televised live on the CSTV Cable Network, with the National Championship game on CBS, Saturday, March 24 at 12 noon.
