junior Kristen Stonecipher was selected today as the first Lone Star Conference North Softball Hitter of the Week of the season for her performance in the season-opening St. Mary's Collegiate Classic in .
Stonecipher, the Mustangs returning NFCA All-American third baseman, belted three homeruns - two of them grand slams - as MSU went 3-2 in the first five games of the season.
Stonecipher, a 5-9 junior from Flower Mound, , hit .600 for the weekend, going 9-for-15, with the three homers, a double and 15 RBI. She has a slugging percentage of 1.267 after the opening weekend.
MSU beat No. 7 Incarnate Word 11-3, Southern Arkansas
8-4 and Texas Woman's 15-6 in the tournament, while falling to No. 19 Abilene Christian 2-1 and St. Mary's 9-1.
Stonecipher was joined in the honor by Southeastern
Oklahoma
State
's Carly Goodnight as LSC North Pitcher of the Week, while 's Dionne Lopez and Kari Garm were named LSC South Hitter and Pitcher of the Week respectively.
MSU travels to this weekend for action in the Texas Woman's University Tournament. The Mustangs open the tournament against host TWU at Noon on Friday.
