Mustangs place 13th at St. Edward's Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas - The Midwestern State University golf team improved it's scores, but couldn't improve it's position as they placed 13th at the St. Edward's Invitational at the Circle C Golf Ranch. It was the first action for the Mustangs this spring.

 

MSU posted a 322 for the halted second round, then put up a 311 for the final round Tuesday, totaling 965 for the tournament. It placed the Mustangs just behind East Central's 954 and Incarnate Word's 981 for 13th in the 15 team field.

 

MSU was led by Gordon Quebodeaux, who completed his second round with a two-over 74, then shot 77 for the third round to finish at 234.

 

Logan Scarlett posted a final round 78 for a 238, with Hunter Linscombe firing a three-over 75 to finish at 243. Andrew Ludlow bounced back from a disastrous first day that included a round disqualification, to post an 81 for the final round, while Brady Jones turned in a 93 for a 243 total.

 

Host St. Edward's won the tournament with a three-round total of 897, three strokes better than Barry ( Fla. ) at 900 and 11 in front of Florida Tech at 908.

Northeastern
State

was the top Lone Star Conference team at 911.

 

Individually, Barry's Hernan Borja and Nick Gillaspy went 1-2, with Borja firing a final round five-under 67 to win the tournament at even-par 216, a stroke ahead of Gillaspy at one-over 217.

 

MSU returns to competition March 5-6 in the Pepsi Crawford/Wade Invitational hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce at the Tanglewood Resort in Pottsboro.
