- Winning the rugged Lone Star Conference South and collecting 20 wins on the season finally caught the eye of the voting coaches in the National Basketball Coaches Association Division II Poll, as the Midwestern State University Mustangs make their debut in the poll at number 24 this week.

It's the first time since February 21, 2000 that MSU has cracked the Division II national poll, when it was also ranked 24th.

MSU (20-6) is the co-champion and top seed from the LSC South in the Lone Star Conference Tournament after beating

Eastern New Mexico

and West Texas A&M on the road last weekend.

Several teams in the previous top 25 suffered losses in the final week of regular season action, including the only other Lone Star Conference team,

Southeastern
Oklahoma
State

(23-3) who fell from fourth to ninth.

Other teams from the South Central region ranked in the poll are No. 10 Central Missouri (24-3) and No. 13 Northwest Missouri State (22-5) of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
