Mustangs fall to Pioneers
DENTON, Texas - - The Midwestern State University women's basketball team dropped a key Lone Star Conference South Division game to the Texas Women's University Pioneers, 61-52.
The Mustangs could not over come a nine-point first half deficit, and fall to 11-12 on the season, and 4-7 in the LSC South.
MSU was lead in scoring by Brittni Burks, who had 16 points and four rebounds off the bench. Sonya Calhoun-Courtney followed with 12 points and five rebounds, while Andi Richardson led the Mustangs in rebounds with eight, to go with her four points.
TWU was paced by Margaret Wimbish and Jessica Durr, with each scoring 13 points. Wimbish added 11 rebounds and Durr added nine rebounds and three steals. Chelsi Thrailkill came off the bench to chip in 11 points.
Midwestern returns home to the D.L. Ligion Coliseum on Saturday. The Mustangs play host to Texas A&M-Kingsville as part of a men's/women's doubleheader, with the women starting at 6:00 p.m., and then men to follow at 8:00 p.m. The game is the final home game of the season, and MSU will honor the seniors in their final game in front of the Midwestern State crowd.
