MSU rolls Abilene Christian 93-75

ABILENE, Texas - The Midwestern State University Mustangs got a double double-double as they never trailed in the second half on the way to a 93-75 Lone Star Conference victory over Abilene Christian University Thursday night at Moody Coliseum.

MSU (15-4, 4-1) maintained its spot alone at the top of the LSC South with the victory, while ACU (10-9, 1-4) remained at the bottom of the LSC South standings.

The Mustangs were paced by senior Eric Dawson who collected 24 points with 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots for his 12 double-double of the season. Junior Christopher Reay added 13 points with 10 boards, two steals and two blocks for his third double-double of the year.

MSU senior Drew Coffman also collected 20 points with seven assists.

Abilene Christian was paced by Philip Brooks with 23 points and seven rebounds. Tiago Souza added 20 points and Cameron Holson 13, both off the bench.

MSU jumped out to a seven-point first half lead at 9-2 before the Wildcats went on a 9-2 run to tie the game at 11-all.

The teams battled back-and-forth midway through the opening half before ACU pulled out to a six-point advantage at 27-21 with 10:10 to play.

With ACU holding a 32-27 lead with 7:16 to play, MSU's Jeremy Ford buried a three that started 14-3 run that gave MSU the lead for good when sophomore Russell Button hit a jumper to tie the game and a free throw to take the lead with 4:17 left before the half.

It was Button's layup with 21 seconds in the half that sent MSU into the break with a 49-40 lead.

Then MSU revved up. After allowing the Wildcats to cut the advantage to eight with 18:41 remaining, MSU went on a 14-4 run to go up by 18 and it was all but over.

outrebounded Abilene Christian 50-32 in the contest, while outshooting the Wildcats from the floor 45 percent (33-of-73) to 43 percent (26-of-61). MSU also nailed 7-of-18 threes in the contest.

MSU also got strong bench production, collecting 23 bench points of it's 93 points.
