MSU Men roll with a 93-67 win over Abilene Christian
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State University Mustangs picked up its fifth straight victory and its 14th in the last 15 games with by rolling to a 93-67 victory over Abilene Christian in Lone Star Conference South play at Gerald Stockton Court in D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
MSU (17-4, 6-1) maintained it's lead in the LSC South with the victory. Abilene Christian (10-11, 1-6) dropped its fourth straight and its eighth in the last nine games.
The Mustangs were again powered by their big three, led by senior center Eric Dawson with 20 points, 16 rebounds, five blocked shots, four assists and three steals.
Senior Drew Coffman added 15 points with six assists, while senior Chad Rickett picked up 14 points with three assists. Senior Chris Francois and junior Chris Davis each chipped in nine points.
ACU got 19 points from Tiago Souza who hit 4-of-8 from the three-point arc, while Igor Vrzina added 13 points and Courtnie Ross tallied 11 points with nine rebounds.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead early before MSU answered the bell, then tied it.
The teams battled with Ross hitting a jumper to give ACU a 25-23 lead with 9:39 to play in the first half.
MSU returned the favor, but led by only one when Souza hit a three at the 7:18 mark to pull within one at 29-28.
That's when the Mustangs hit the gas.
In the second half MSU had control, only to see ACU trim the lead to six at 59-53 on a Souza trey.
Then the MSU machine went back to work. With a 64-55 advantage, MSU got a pair of Coffman free throws and a
MSU junior walkon Kevin Brandsma put the icing on the cake with four points on a pair of field goals in the last 90 seconds.
