MSU Men clobber Texas A&M-Commerce 101-84
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State University Mustangs did nearly everything right in picking up their sixth consecutive victory by rolling over Texas A&M University-Commerce 101-84 Saturday night in Lone Star Conference divisional crossover play at Gerald Stockton Court in D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
MSU (9-3) trailed only once at 3-2, were tied by the Lions (6-8) twice and never looked back after launching a 17-7 run midway through the first half started by a Drew Coffman three-pointer to take an 18-point lead.
Midwestern held the 18-point advantage at the half, 60-42. Then MSU jumped out on a 9-2 run to begin the second half to lead 69-44 and MSU just needed to hang on.
The Mustangs led by as many as 27 points in the half and substituted freely.
Senior Eric Dawson led MSU with 25 points and seven rebounds with two blocked shots. Senior Chad Rickett chipped in 19 points with a career-tying seven assists and Coffman 12 points with six boards and four assists. Rod Jacobs added 10 points, and Chris Davis just missed a double-double with nine points and seven rebounds.
Texas A&M-Commerce placed five players in double figures, led by Lamar Searight with 19 points, Lance Jackson chipped in 17 points and Archie Beason 14 points with eight rebounds. Brad Brickmon tallied 12 points and Kevin Widemon 10 for the Lions.
It was the first time MSU scored more than 100 points against a Lone Star Conference opponent since a 104-71 victory over Abilene Christian on Jan. 29, 2005. It was also the second time this season that MSU scored 60 points in a half.
