Mustangs Win SSC Tournament

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State University men's soccer team erased a late two goal deficit to knock off the West Texas A&M Buffalos in overtime,4-3, and win the Southwest Soccer Conference tournament championship.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Obed Becerra scored the winning goal, four minutes into overtime, off a touch pass from Danny Kastelic.

The scoring began in the first half, when WT forward Rene Gomez put a shot in from 11 yards out off a pass from Jacob Jensen.

In the second half, the Buffaloes increased their lead, this time off a shot from Jensen. MSU then scored their first goal of the match when Brandon Swartzendruber slipped one past West Texas Goalie J.J. Craddock, to make the score 2-1.

West Texas
then wasted no time scoring their third goal of the match, this time off the foot of Tommy Nutter, who received the pass off a header from Daniel Bulley.

MSU then scored the final two goals of regulation, with one from Sun Potter, and the other coming from Swartzendruber. The goal from Swartzendruber tied the game at 3-3, with seven minutes to play.

The Mustangs also placed five players, MVP Becerra, Swartzendruber, Potter, Daniel Brown, and Daniel Woolard on the All-Tournament Team.

On Monday, Midwestern will hear from the NCAA regional soccer committee to find out where there first game in the National tournament will be held.
