Mustangs Cruise to Win Over Lions
JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Midwestern State University men's soccer team defeated the Missouri Southern Lions Friday, 4-0, in Southwest Soccer Conference action.
With the win, MSU (14-2-1, 6-1-0) clinches a share of the SSC title, and can take the outright title with a win or tie against Northeastern State (Okla.) on Sunday.
In the first half, Daniel Brown picked up his fourth goal of the season, off a corner kick from Brandon Swartzendruber. Then with 13 minutes left in the half, Sun Potter received a pass from Swartzendruber to score his tenth goal of the year.
In the Second half, the Mustangs continued the scoring, when Ahmad Ihmeidan scored his fifth goal of the year of a penalty kick. Tyler Murphy put the game out of reach, with his fourth goal of the year, with just under 10 minutes to play. For the game MSU out shot Missouri Southern (3-10-4, 0-6-2) 21-6.
Defensively, Jeremy Turner picked up his fourth shutout of the year and upped his record to 8-1 on the season. Turner saved two of the six shots he faced.
Midwestern will travel to Tahlequah, Oklahoma on Sunday to face NSU, with the winner to host the SSC tournament.
