MSU Mourns Dr. Pino

Guillermo Anton Pino, M.D., 53, died Friday evening, leaving behind a host of loving friends and family, plus two decades of fond memories as the attending medical physician for Midwestern State University athletics.

Almost to the day that Midwestern State revived its football program in 1988, Pino has walked the sidelines at Memorial Stadium, attending to the immediate medical needs of MSU athletes. During all MSU sports seasons, he worked closely with the Mustangs' head athletics trainer and staff.

When health care was required, Pino directed coaches and athletic trainers in the proper direction. The man known to all as "Willy," was a reliable and outstanding friend of Midwestern State University.

"Not only did Willy repair many of our kids' injuries with great skill, he loved MSU and he became an integral part of our sports programs," said MSU President Dr. Jesse W. Rogers. "I can't believe that he won't be walking the sidelines with folded arms any longer."

"Dr. Pino's influence on the athletes at MSU and athletics training program will be long-lasting and not forgotten," said Gary Diehm, head athletics trainer for MSU. "Without his dedication and service to the university, our athletes would not have received the high level care we are accustomed to."

Services will be held at MSU's D. L. Ligon Coliseum, Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Willy is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Pino; children Johathan Pino, M.D. and his wife, Ginger; Annaliese Murray and her husband Ben; David and Daniel Pino.

Pino graduated from Wichita Falls Rider, and attended both MSU and Tarleton State University before graduating from the University of Monterrey Medical School.

He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Tulane University in 1982, and the family then moved to Wichita Falls where Willy began his practice with the Clinics of North Texas.
