MSU Men to face Texas A&M

WICHITA FALLS
,
Texas
- The Midwestern State University Mustangs will open the exhibition portion of their 2006-07 men's basketball schedule at
Texas
A&M
University
next week.

MSU and A&M will face each other next Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Reed Arena in

College Station
. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

The contest was announced Wednesday by the schools.

Midwestern
State
returns two starters off of last season's 16-11 team, center Eric Dawson and guard Chad Rickett.

Dawson, a 6-9 senior from San Antonio/Sam Houston, led MSU in scoring with 15.7 points a game. He led the Lone Star Conference in rebounds (9.8 per game), blocked shots (2.8) and steals (2.59).

Dawson
also led the NCAA Division II South Central region in boards and blocks, just missing the lead in steals by four total steals.

Rickett, a 6-1 senior from Houston/Clear Lake, was the second-leading scorer for the Mustangs last season, averaging 13.0 points a game to go with 2.3 assists an outing.

Coach Jeff Ray also welcomes Texas Tech transfer Drew Coffman, a 6-1 senior from Midland/Lee, who shot 43 percent from the three-point arc last season before leaving the Red Raiders in December.

Texas A&M is picked to finish second in the Big 12 Conference after coming off a 22-9 campaign that saw the Aggies advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Aggies fell to eventual Final Four participant LSU on a late three-pointer.

A&M returns four starters, including their leading scorer, first-team All-Big 12 selection Acie Law of Dallas/Kimball, who averaged 16.1 points a game.

"We're excited to get to play A&M," said Ray. "Coach Gillespie has obviously turned the corner with that team. But it's an exhibition game and we are going out to improve ourselves."

"We're going to get everybody in and use the game as an evaluation."

The A&M exhibition is the first of two exhibition games for MSU. The Mustangs host

Oklahoma City
University
for an exhibition on Nov. 9 before opening the season on the road at
Oklahoma
Panhandle
State
on Nov. 16.
