MSU claims SSC Regular Season Title

- The 13th ranked Midwestern State University Mustangs didn't take long to establish themselves as the team in control of their destiny on Sunday as MSU won the Southwest Soccer Conference regular season title by beating

) 3-0.

Senior Brandon Swartzendruber of

Grand Junction

Colo.
, led the attack for MSU (15-2-1 overall, 7-1-0 SSC). The SSC's scoring leader, Swartzendruber scored two of the goals and assisted the third to lead MSU to it's 11th straight victory.

The Mustangs scored quickly with junior Daniel Brown of Arlington/Martin blasting a 20-yard shot to the far post in the ninth minute to give MSU a 1-0 lead.

Swartzendruber followed that score with a goal from an assist by Sun Potter just six minutes later for a two-goal advantage.

Swartzendruber finished the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 66th minute.

MSU dominated the match, outshooting the Redmen (9-5-5, 4-1-3) 15-to-5. The Mustangs were also whistled for 11 offside violations on the attack.

Midwestern junior goal keeper Jeremy Turner of Friendswood got a save on the only NSU shot on goal in the match, recording his fifth shutout of the season. It was the 10th shutout for the team of the year as well.

The victory also gives MSU, the number two team in the NCAA Division II's Midwest Region, the role of hosting the SSC Tournament this Thursday and Saturday.
