Golfers split matches at Texoma Match Play
KINGSTON, Okla. - The Midwestern State University golf team won one match and lost in a semifinal match at the Texoma Match Play Championship at the Chickasaw Pointe Resort on Monday.
The tournament features a Ryder Cup style match play format, with a six-player line up, then pairs the six to for three twosomes for a total of nine points in a match.
Midwestern won it's way into the semifinal by beating Texas A&M-Commerce 8 1/2 -to- 1/2. However, the Mustangs fell in the semifinal to Central Oklahoma 7 1/2 -to- 1 1/2.
MSU will meet West Texas A&M in the third place match on Tuesday.
Against A&M-Commerce, Gordon Quebodeaux defeated Blake Worden, 1 up at number one, while Brady Jones beat Pinkey Hartline, 5-and-3 at number two.
The number three match between MSU's Hunter Linscombe and A&M-C's Chase Johnson was halved.
MSU took the other three singles as well, with Eric Thompson beating Ryan Jaco, 3-and-2, Jason Bender winning over Andy Carter 4-and-2, and Andrew Ludlow over Sean Williams, 3-and-2.
MSU won all three four-ball doubles against A&M-C.
In the afternoon semifinal against UCO, Quebodeaux won his singles match against Mitch Boles, 1 up, for the only Mustang win. Quebodeaux and Jones halved their four-ball match against Boles and Colby Schrum for the half point.
The Texoma Match Play Championship concludes the fall season for MSU.
