Central Oklahoma beats Mustangs 3-2
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State University Mustangs allowed the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos to take a two games-to-none lead before making charging back only to fall in the fifth game, as UCO downed MSU 3-2 Saturday afternoon.
UCO (16-9, 6-2) took the Lone Star Conference North match at D.L. Ligon Coliseum/Gerald Stockton Court 30-22, 30-26, 26-30, 31-33, 15-13.
The fourth game featured both squads going on five and six-point runs. MSU took the fourth game thanks to a pair of service aces by Rachel Gilmore to send the match to a fifth game.
In game five, MSU (11-13, 2-6) fell behind 4-0, before battling back to tie the game at 8-all.
The teams traded serves until UCO, trailing 13-12, rattled off a pair of points to win the match.
MSU got 14 kills and seven blocks from junior Krissa Johnson of Denver City, while senior Lacey Lanier of Crandall and freshman Jessica Ransom of Wichita Falls/High posted 13 kills a piece. Windthorst sophomore Allison Schreiber collected 53 assists. Gilmore, a junior from Arlington/Lamar, had eight kills to go with eight blocks for the Mustangs.
UCO had four players in double figures in kills, led by freshman Kelsey Reynolds with 18 and senior Penny Wascovich with 14 and seven blocks.
Midwestern State returns to action on Monday, with a non-conference match against Paul Quinn College. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Ligon Coliseum.
