Lombard, Pence selected for LSC Scholar-Athlete Award
,
-
seniors Tate Lombard and Kate Pence were among the 29 student-athletes honored with 2005-06 Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete Award presented by league officials.
Each academic year, the LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete Award to one male and one female student-athlete at each member institution. These student-athletes are selected as representatives of the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership that are displayed on each LSC campus during the year.
Lombard, a 6-3 guard from Canyon, earned his fourth letter in men's basketball this past season. He averaged 6.5 points for MSU his senior season.
Pence, a 5-9 outside hitter from Round Rock, won her fourth letter in volleyball last season. A three-time All-Lone Star Conference North selection, Pence is second all-time at MSU with 1,407 kills.
To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have participated at least two years in their sport and must have exhausted their athletic eligibility.
Besides representing each of the league's 15 member institutions, this year's recipients represent 11 of the 15 sports that are sponsored by the conference. Football had the most Scholar-Athletes with seven selections, while volleyball was second with five.
The 2005-06 Scholar-Athletes led their respective teams to seven LSC divisional titles, four LSC championships and one NCAA Regional crown.
