Four MSU Players named to LSC All-Academic Tennis Teams

WICHITA FALLS ,  Texas  -  Midwestern State Universit  senior Michelle Beukes was selected the 2006 Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis Academic Player of the Year as the league presented the men's and women's All-Academic teams on Wednesday.

Beukes joins MSU junior Cecilia Muller and sophomore Brenna Jackson on the women's team, while junior Charles van Swelm was named to the men's team.

Beukes, an economic major from  Randburg, South Africa , was named the women's Academic Player of the Year for consecutive years. Beukes teamed with  Jackson , a kinesiology major from Wichita Falls/Rider in doubles to rank second in the ITA/Fila Central Regional rankings with a 12-4 record.

Jackson  posted a 15-2 record in singles, primarily playing number two.

Muller, an accounting major from  Middelburg, South Africa , was 15-3 in singles on the year, mainly seeing action at number three singles.

The trio composed nearly half of the seven-member women's squad.

Tarleton State 's Alicia Cummings, ACU's Holly Lindoff, Cameron's Carolina Vera-Vera and East Central's Amanda Rhynes were also named to the team.

On the men's side, van Swelm, a health fitness management major from The Hague, Netherlands, posted a 20-4 singles record on the season playing at either three or four.

Abilene Christian's Kevin Beedy was the men's Academic Player of the Year. Also on the men's team were ACU's Casper Steenkamp,

Central Oklahoma 's Christian Haugen and East Central's Felipe Lopez and Matt Folsom.

To be eligible for selection for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.20 overall grade point average and reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of the Year award and All-Academic Team are selected by the league's sports information directors based on academic and athletic achievement.
