Willson & Stonecipher named All-America

WICHITA FALLSTexas Midwestern State University's Brittany Willson and Kristen Stonecipher became the first two softball players in school history named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America team. The squad was announced Thursday.

 

Willson, a 5-11 senior from Burkburnett, earned third-team honors after leading the nation with 29 regular season wins. Willson capped off her stellar career with a career-best 270 strikeouts.

 

She finished with 832 career strikeouts and leaves Midwestern tied with Southeastern Oklahoma senior Christina Cearley as the Lone Star Conference career wins leader with 93.

 

Stonecipher, a 5-9 sophomore from Flower Mound, Texas, also gained third-team recognition after hitting .400 in the regular season.

 

She finished the season with the program's highest average (.393), highest on-base percentage (.441), most runs scored (41), most hits (75) and most doubles (16).

 

Stonecipher was also D-2's third toughest hitter to strikeout, going own on strikes just twice in 208 plate appearances.

 

The Mustangs closed the 2006 season with a program-best 44-15 record and a third consecutive trip to the South Central Regional.
