Cearley shuts down Midwestern State, 3-0

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Southeastern Oklahoma's Christina Cearley weaved a three-hit shutout and the Savage Storm took advantage of two Midwestern State errors to eliminate the top-seeded Mustangs 3-0 Friday afternoon in the NCAA Division II South Central Regionals at Skip Brown Field.

The win tied Cearley with MSU's Brittany Willson for the most career wins in Lone Star Conference history at 93.

Cearley will get a shot at her 94th win on Saturday at 11 a.m. when Southeastern Oklahoma (42-13) faces the loser of Friday's winner's bracket semifinal involving St. Edward's and

Central Oklahoma
.

Willson finished the season with a 29-10 record after allowing seven hits and three unearned runs. She struck out two and walked two.

The Savage Storm took advantage of two costly MSU miscues in the sixth inning.

Midwestern first baseman Jessica Rodriguez mishandled Sarah Huddleston's throw to allow Kristin McNeese to reach with one out.

Amy Wood, who pinch ran for McNeese, came around to score the first run of the game when Tressi Irby's liner to left field stayed out of the reach of Allison Tidwell.

Rachel Sill followed with an RBI-single to left field, then advanced to second on the throw to the plate and scored when Jackson's errant throw back to second base went all the way to the center-field fence.

Irby and Sill each had a pair of hits to pace the Savage Storm at the plate, while

Jackson
led
Midwestern
State
with two hits. Kristen Stonecipher was the only other Mustang to reach base safely - on a soft single to right field in the first inning.

Midwestern
State
finished the season with a school-record 44 wins (and 15 losses), and this was the first time it had lost consecutive games all season.

The Mustangs are now 0-6 in three South Central Region appearances, while Southeastern Oklahoma won for the first time in 10 tries in its fifth appearance.
