Ray signs two to basketball letters of intent
WICHITA FALLS , Texas- Midwesternname Statetype Universitytype men's basketball coach Jeff Ray signed two young men to National Letters of Intent to play for MSU next season.
Ray announced the signing of high school senior Michael Godwin of Rockwall and Trinityname Valleytype Community Collegetype sophomore Chris Davis of Terrell.
Godwin, a 6-8 swingman, averaged 8.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists a game to help lead Rockwall High to a 20-10 season as a senior.He averaged 7.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists as a junior.
Godwin was twice named first-team all-District 12-5A, was a nominee for McDonald's All-America, was the RHS team MVP twice and named to several all-tournament teams including the Fantasy of Lights Tournament in Wichita Falls .
"Michael is a gifted athlete," said Ray."He's a great runner who can get up and down the floor.He played guard as well as forward in high school and that's a plus.
"He's highly skilled and has fantastic potential.We're excited to get him."
Davis, a 6-4 guard, was an honorable mention NJCAA All-Region XIV player at Trinityname Valleytype .He led TVCC and ranked 19th in Region 14 in scoring, averaging 13.1 points a game, and was third in the region in three-point shooting, connecting on 42.8 percent of his threes (42-of-98) last season.
Additionally, Davis was second on the TVCC team with 5.0 boards a game, led the team by shooting 46.9 percent from the floor and led the team with 1.3 steals a game.
"Chris had a fantastic year at Trinityname Valleytype last season," Ray gleamed."He's a great kid and plays hard.We can see him play three positions at Midwestern."
Ray believes both are outstanding player who will help the Mustangs improve from last year's 16-11 season.
"We are very excited to have these young men.Chris and Michael are great additions to our team."
