No. 21 MSU sets school hit and run records, but splits with Southwestern Oklahoma

- No. 21 Midwestern State erupted for a pair of school records after falling to Southwestern Oklahoma 4-3 in Game 1 Saturday afternoon at SWOSU Park.

Seven Mustangs contributed multi-hit games as MSU pounded out 19 hits and 18 runs - both school records - in an 18-5 rout of the Bulldogs in Game 2.

MSU is now 38-11 on the season and 15-5 in the Lone Star Conference North Division. The Mustangs trail

Central Oklahoma
by one game for the division championship.

The teams play a four-game series next week beginning with a doubleheader in

on Tuesday before closing the regular season with a pair of games on Saturday at the Sunrise Optimist Complex.

The Bronchos were swept by

Southwestern Oklahoma
scored four runs in the fifth inning to overcome a three-run deficit and make a winner of Alex Zukerman. Zukerman (5-17) limited MSU to six hits and three unearned runs while striking out six and walking two.

MSU starter Brittany Willson fell to 23-7 after allowing four runs on eight hits, while striking out 11 and walking two.

The Mustangs jumped on Bulldog starter Kaci Carpenter for six runs in the first inning, and then put eight runs on Zukerman, who relieved Carpenter in the second before Carpenter returned to finish the game.

Chantelle Lee led the hitting parade by going 2-for-3 with a home run and drove in five runs.

Kristen Stonecipher, Jessica Rodriguez and Kelli Shaw each had three hits as nine different Mustangs drove in runs.

Stonecipher and Racheal Jackson also had solo homers, their ninth and eight on the season, respectively.

Ashley Kuchenski was the beneficiary in the circle. The sophomore improved to 15-4 despite surrendering eight hits, four earned runs and three walks while striking out four.
