MSU Men to host NCAA II Regional; Women to Abilene
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State University men's and women's tennis teams are headed to the NCAA Division II Team Championships as the brackets were released Wednesday afternoon.
The MSU men get to stay at home, hosting a Central Regional, part of the first and second rounds of the tournament. MSU (16-4), the second seed in the Central regional, hosts seventh seed East Central (12-12) in the first round on Thursday, May 4. Third seeded Abilene Christian (17-6) faces sixth seed Incarnate Word (10-6) in the other first round matchup.
The winners play Friday, May 5, for the right to play in the round of 16 in the national tournament in Kansas City, Mo.
The MSU women (13-5) will travel to Abilene as the fourth seed to face fifth seeded Incarnate Word (12-6) on Thursday, May 4. Top seeded ACU (27-6) hosts eighth seed East Central (12-9) in the other first round game.
Like the men, those winners play Friday, May 5, to see who will advance to the round of 16 in Kansas City .
The MSU men earned an automatic bid to the NCAA's by winning the Lone Star Conference Championship last Friday in Wichita Falls , defeating ACU 5-3 in the championship match.
The MSU women were selected at-large after falling to ACU 6-0 in the LSC semifinals last Friday.
Match times for all regional contest will be announced on Thursday.
