MSU announces Women's Basketball signees

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State University women's basketball coach Shannon Burks announced the signing of Kaylon Hodge of Hillsboro and McLennan Community College to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Mustangs next season.

The 5-6 guard averaged 5.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.2 steals, 1.2 assists and shot 40.5 percent from the floor as a sophomore last season.

A second-team all-conference player and the league's co-defensive player of the year, she helped lead MCC to the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference championship with a 23-7 overall record.

"Kaylon's a great jump shooter and defensive player," said Burks. á "She'll bring a lot of leadership to the team."

Hodge joins five others signed early with MSU.

During the early period the Mustangs inked Susan Anthony of Coppell, Andrea Buben of Duncan, Okla., Julie Finney of Farmington, Ark. , Courtney Shaw of Forney and Halie Jacobs of Throckmorton.

Anthony, a 6-1 center, was the co-captain of Coppell High, averaging 5.0 points and 4.0 rebounds a game on her way to being named an honorable mention all-District 6-5A.

Buben, a 5-10 forward from Duncan High, collected 14 points and eight boards a contest her senior season. á She was nominated for the McDonald's All-American game and was named to the Lawton Constitution All-Area team and co-player of the year on the Duncan Banner All-Area team.

Finney, a 5-9 forward for Farmington High, was a first-team All-State performer, second-team all-conference and twice all-district. á She was also a McDonald's All-America nominee and a member of the Northwest Arkansas Times All-Area team.

Shaw, a 6-0 forward from Forney was an honorable mention all-District 11-4A selection. á She ranked third in her district with 20 three-point field goals and was ninth in the district with 130 rebounds. á She helped Forney reach the area playoffs with an 18-12 record this season.

Jacobs, a 5-4 point guard, was named first team all-region and all-state for Throckmorton. á The district's most valuable player, she averaged 16 points, 5.4 assists and 4.6 steals a game. á A cross country standout, she will be a dual sport performer for MSU.
