MSU advances to LSC Finals; beats Abilene Christian, 5-1
áááá IRVING, Texas - Sarah Huddleston's run-scoring single in the fourth inning gave Midwestern State its first lead of the game, and the Mustangs piled on three more runs in the fifth to claim a 5-1 win over Abilene Christian in the winner's bracket finals of the Lone Star Conference postseason tournament Saturday at Southwest Park.
ááá The No. 9-ranked Mustangs will ACU for the conference championship at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Wildcats defeated Southeastern Oklahoma 2-0 in the elimination bracket finals on the strength of a four-hit shutout by Jennifer Leal.
ááá MSU starter Brittany Willson scattered nine hits and allowed just a solo home run in the second inning to ACU's Stephanie Borgeson.
áá The win was Willson's 92nd career win and makes her the winningest pitcher in LSC history as she past Texas A&M-Kingsville's Maria Guitierrez for the honor. Willson is 28-8 this season.
ááá Allison Tidwell paced the MSU attack by going 2-for-4 while scoring a run and driving in another.
