Huddleston extends hitting streak to 9; leads MSU past UCO 6-1

IRVING, Texas - Sarah Huddleston extended her hitting streak to nine games by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead Midwestern State past Central Oklahoma 6-1 Friday afternoon in the Lone Star Conference postseason tournament at Southwest Park.

No. 9 Midwestern (42-12) will face Abilene Christian in the winner's bracket finaláSaturday afternoon. The approximate time for first will be 1 p.m. after inclement weather forced the postponement of the tournament Friday afternoon.

Abilene Christian used a Jade Wilson home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to claim a 3-2 win over Southeastern Oklahoma in the other winner's bracket semifinal.

The Mustangs chased Central Oklahoma starter JordanAkin after she surrendered a bases loaded walk to leave the bases loaded with no outs for ace Alli Blake.

Blake induced Kelli Shaw to ground back to the circle to cut down a run at the plate before Huddleston ripped a line drive to left field.

Lindsay Mitchell made a sliding attempt, but the ball glanced off her glove to give Huddleston a two-run double and the Mustangs a 3-0 early lead.

That would prove to be enough for MSU starter Brittany Willson as the senior right hander worked six innings for her 27th of the season. It was also the 91st of her career, which tied her with Texas A&M-Kingsville's Maria Guitierrez (1999-2002( for the most wins in Lone Star Conference history.

Willson struck out six and allowed an Angela Stratton homer to lead off the fourth inning.

The Mustangs added two more runs in the third inning after Racheal Jackson lined a single off of Blake's left leg. Blake, who allowed two hits in two innings, was forced to leave the game.

Shaw then greeted Akin, who came into replace the injured Blake, with an RBI-double to left-center field. Huddleston followed with a double over the left fielder's head to plate Shaw.

The Mustangs added another run an inning later when Allison Tidwell scored on Jessica Rodriguez' sacrifice fly to left field. Tidwell led off the inning with a double down the left-field line.
