Stefinski shuts out MSU Softball and delivers two home runs

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Cameron University pitcher Bethany Stefinsky accomplished a feat no other pitcher has been able to achieve Monday afternoon at the Sunrise Optimist Complex.

Stefinsky, a 5-8 freshman from Gonzales, Texas, posted the first shutout against the Midwestern State University Mustangs this season, allowing just two hits to earn a 7-0 win for the Lady Aggies in Game 2.

Stefinsky also accounted for six of the Lady Aggies' seven runs with a pair of home runs to dead center field - a grand slam in the second and a two-run blast in the seventh.

Cameron salvaged a split after MSU's Allison Tidwell delivered an RBI-single down the left-field line to plate pinch-runner Ashley Kuchenski in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Mustangs a 3-2 win in Game 1.

The Mustangs are now 22-5 on the season and 5-1 in the LSC North. Cameron is 14-17 and 2-4.

The teams will hook up in another doubleheader on Tuesday in Lawton with the first pitch slated for 1 p.m.

Cameron's Bridgett Davis reached when her grounder took a bad hop and was misplayed by MSU second baseman Sarah Huddleston in second inning of Game 2.

Megan Young walked before Shelby Davis loaded the bases by reaching on an infield single. Kuchenski hit Stephanie Bour with the pitch to allow one run before Stefinsky homered to center field to give Cameron a 5-0 lead.

Stefinsky added her fifth home run of the year in the seventh, but was brilliant in the circle all afternoon. She allowed three base runners while striking four to improve to 8-5 on the season.

Kuchenski suffered her loss in eight decisions to fall to 8-3.

Brittany Willson battled to improve to 14-2 on the season in Game 1. The senior starter allowed one earned run on five hits while striking out 11 and walking four.

The teams exchanged runs in the first three innings and were knotted at two after Amanda Hill drove Rachael Jackson in with an RBI-single to right center.

The score remained until Hill hit a one-out double to right center in the bottom of the seventh. Kuchenski, who had come in to pinch run, scored when Tidwell slapped a single down the left-field line.

Jackson and Hill had two hits each for MSU in Game 1, while Jessica Rodriguez and Kristen Stonecipher had the Mustangs lone hits in Game 2.
