MSU Softball thumps East Central 8-2, 11-2

ADA , Okla. - Racheal Jackson joined select company when she belted her fourth career grand slam in the second game of the Midwestern State University Mustangs LSC North showdown with East Central University at Lady Tiger Field.

Kristen Stonecipher added a three-run home run in Game 1 as MSU swept ECU 8-2 and 11-2 to improve to 21-4 on the season and 4-0 in the North Division.

The No. 14 Mustangs have now won their last five games and 16 of their last 17. They will face Cameron in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Monday before the series goes to Lawton on Tuesday.

Jackson followed singles by Allison Tidwell, Kristen Stonecipher and Jessica Rodriguez with a blast over the left-field fence.

The junior catcher's four career grand slams tie her for the most in NCAA Division II history. She joins Kennesaw  State's Audra Thomas and Pittsburg  State's Emily Gastineau.

Jackson has connected for three grand slams this season including two in the Lady Buff Classic two weekends ago. The three grand slams in a season are second only to Gastineau's four last season.

MSU added five more runs with a six-hit second inning to give starter Ashley Kuchenski a 9-0 lead after two innings of play and Amanda Hill tacked on a two-run blast in the fourth.

Kuchenski allowed eight hits and an earned to improve to 8-2 on the season and has won seven consecutive decisions.

Stephanie Wardlaw, Stonecipher and Rodriguez combined for nine of MSU's 14 hits in the opener, but the Mustangs did all their in just two innings.

Kelli Shaw's two-run single to right-center keyed MSU's three-run third inning and Stonecipher's three-run shot highlighted the Mustangs' five-run sixth.

Brittany Willson improved to 13-2 on the season by doing the distance, allowing nine hits and an earned while striking out seven and walking three.

Wardlaw became just the third MSU softball player to connect for four hits in Game 1, joining Brandi Tynes and Stonecipher.

Rodriguez and Wardlaw led the Mustangs' 28-hit parade with five hits each.
