MSU women fall to Angelo State, 68-60

The Angelo State University Rambelles used an 11-2 run to close out the Midwestern State University Mustangs 68-60 Wednesday night on

Stockton Court at Ligon Coliseum.

Angie Faurot hit two free throws to give the Mustangs their last lead of the game with 4:45 remaining in the game, but MSU couldn't muster a field goal in the final 6:26 of the contest to allow Angelo State to pull away with the win.

Asheia Haynes led the Rambelles with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting, while Meghann LeJeune notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards.

The loss drops the Mustangs to 9-13 on the season and 2-6 in the LSC South. The division-leading Rambelles improved to 17-5 and 8-1.

MSU was led by a pair of double-figure scorers off of the bench. Katherine Maples, who came off the bench for just the second time this season, had 16 points and five rebounds. Kelly Cleavinger added 12 points, with 10 of those coming in the first half.

The Mustangs used a 16-2 first-half run to turn a 20-8 deficit into a 28-25 halftime lead. MSU led throughout much of the second half before going cold from the field in the final six minutes of the game.

Midwestern State continues LSC South play Saturday with a 2 p.m. showdown at Abilene Christian.
