MSU Women fall to ACU, 62-52
ABILENE, Texas - The nightmares at Moody Coliseum continued Saturday afternoon for the Midwestern State University Mustangs.
The Mustangs let a 10-point, first-half lead slip away as the Abilene Christian University Wildcats won for the 11th-straight time in Abilene after pulling away for a 62-52 win.
The home team has now won the last 14 meetings in the series. MSU has not won in Moody Coliseum since Trish Young scored 37 points to help the Lady Indians to an 89-78 win on Jan. 30, 1992.
áThe loss dropped MSU to 9-14 on the season and 3-7 in the LSC South, while the Wildcats improved to 10-13 and 3-7.
The Mustangs used a 13-0 spurt to take a 16-4 lead after Tia Banks converted a baseline drive at the 12:24 mark of the first half.
That would be the largest MSU lead of the game as the Wildcats used a series of mini-runs to chip away at the deficit before Alex Guiton converted to two free throws with 32 seconds remaining in the first half to put ACU up 29-27.
The Wildcats would never trail again.
MSU senior center Katherine Maples claimed her tenth double-double of the season, leading the Mustangs with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Angie Faurot added 10 points and a season-high six rebounds, while Banks had nine points and four assists.
Guiton paced the Wildcats with 17 points and dished out six assists, while Jamie Boles-Lord had 10 points and eight boards.
The Mustangs return to action Wednesday night at Texas A&M-Kingsville. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.
