MSU Men roll over Abilene Christian 85-65
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State University Mustangs led wire-to-wire as they posted their second Lone Star Conference South division victory with an 85-65 triumph over Abilene Christian University Saturday night at Gerald Stockton Court in D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
It was a historical night for MSU (13-9, 2-5) as junior Eric Dawson collected three blocked shots to set a new school record for blocked shots in a season, his third school record this year. á Now with 57 blocks, he passed Mike Smith's 56 blocks in 1983-84. á Dawson has MSU single-game record with seven blocks against Ouachita Baptist in December and tied the single-game steals record with eight against Angelo State last Wednesday.
Dawson starred all over the floor, with 23 points and 10 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season. á Junior Chris Francois came off the bench with his first double-double as a Mustang with 17 points and 10 boards. á Allen Houston came off the bench with 18 points as he nailed 7-of-9 shots from the floor, including 3-of-5 from the three-point arc.
Abilene Christian (8-14, 3-4) tied the game at 2-all with 18:50 to play before allowing MSU to go on a 17-4 run over the next six minutes. á MSU never allowed ACU to get closer than the seven-point halftime margin of 40-33.
MSU extended its lead in the second half with runs of 10-0 and 15-3, holding as much as a 25-point lead before emptying the bench and ending the contest with the 20-point victory.
ACU's Demarcquez Rembert led all scorers with 25 points and added a team-high five rebounds. á Tiago Souza and Cameron Holson each posted 10 points. á Joshua Bigby came off the bench with five boards to join Rembert.
MSU remains at home on Wednesday when the Mustangs host Angelo State in the second round of LSC South play. á Tipoff is set for about 8 p.m. following the women's game between ASU and á MSU at Ligon Coliseum.
