Jackson, Lee slam MSU Softball to sweep of Panhandle State

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Racheal Jackson and Chantelle Lee each slammed home runs to lead the Midwestern State University Mustangs to a doubleheader sweep of the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Lady Aggies Monday afternoon at the Sunrise Optimist Comple.

The Mustangs improved to 10-3 on the season after taking 10-2 and 9-2 decisions over Panhandle State, which dropped to 0-11.

Jackson went 5-for-6 on the day with two home runs, a double and seven RBIs, while Lee hit her third and fourth home runs of the season en route to a 3-for-4 day at the plate, driving in four runs.

Jackson's two-run double in the first inning of Game 1 highlighted a three-run inning before led off the second inning with a solo shot to right-center field to give starter Brittany Willson a 4-0 lead in the second inning.

Willson made the led stand up to improve to 7-1, but not before the Lady Aggies close the lead to 4-2 on the strength of a Jennifer Costeldia two-run home in the fourth.

But MSU put up a six-spot in the bottom of the inning - highlighted by Jackson's three-run blast over the center-field fence- to run rule-rule the Aggies in five innings.

Willson finished the game with six strikeouts, while allowing four hits and two earned runs in five innings.

Stephanie Wardlaw went 2-for-2 from the plate, scoring two runs and driving home another.

Jackson picked up right where she left in Game 1, lining a two-run blast to left field to help the Mustangs pull out to a 5-1 lead after the first inning of Game 2.

The Aggies managed an unearned run in the top of the first, and then plated an earned run on Jacqueline Cornish's RBI single to center field in the second.

But that would be all MSU sophomore starter Ashley Kuchenski would allow.

áThe southpaw retired 14 of the last 15 batters she faced to improve to 3-2 on the season. Kuchenski struck out four and allowed one earned run.

Lee closed the door on Panhandle State with a three-run home run to right field to give the Mustangs a 9-2 lead.

Jessica Rodriguez and Amanda Hill had two hits apiece in Game 2.

MSU continues its home stand with a pair of games against West Texas A&M Tuesday afternoon at the Sunrise Optimist Complex. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
