College of Liberal Arts Named

On Friday, Feb. 10, the Midwestern State University Board of Regents approved the naming of the College of Liberal Arts the Prothro-Yeager College of Liberal Arts and the College of Liberal Arts Hall the Prothro-Yeager Hall.

The generous support of the Perkins-Prothro Foundation includes the establishment of the Perkins-Prothro Liberal Arts Endowment Fund in 1999. This gift is one of the largest single gifts received by the university. The funds are used to support academic programs through scholarships, faculty development and research within the MSU College of Liberal Arts.

"For many years, members of the Prothro and Yeager families have generously supported the mission, students, and faculty of the College of Liberal Arts," stated Sam Watson, dean of the college. "It is a fitting and well-deserved tribute for the Board of Regents to name our college and building for these families.

The naming of the Prothro Yeager College of Liberal Arts and the building was also approved to recognize the service of Board of Regents Member Emeritus Kathryn A. Yeager, who served on the MSU Board of Regents for 12 years, and served as Chairperson of the Board for nine years.

"This is an opportunity to honor these families and show our appreciation for their continuing support. Naming the college and the college facility will be a reminder of the contributions they have made to the liberal arts education of our students," stated MSU President Jesse W. Rogers.
