West Texas A&M downs MSU Men 90-68
CANYON, Texas - The Midwestern State University Mustangs erased a 12-point second half deficit only to see the West Texas A&M University Buffaloes go on an 18-3 run to clobber the Mustangs 90-68 Wednesday night in Lone Star Conference South play. MSU dropped it's third straight game, dipping to 11-8 overall and 0-4 in the LSC South. á West Texas improved to 14-4 overall and 3-0 in LSC South play, extending it's home court winning streak to 14 games. MSU battled from a nine-point deficit to trail 32-31 at the half.The Mustangs grabbed the lead on a LaKeith Grant jumper to start the half, then swapped the lead twice with WT before the Buffs went a 15-4 run. But MSU fought back, using a 12-1 run to pull within one at 56-55 (though the scoreboard read 56-all) when Roderick Jacobs stole the inbounds pass following an old-fashioned three-point play by Allen Houston, and made a layup with 8:24 to play. But an Eric Dawson foul on the next possession allowed Ronnie Holmes to hit a pair of free throws and start an 18-3 run over the next five minutes and put the game away. The loss overshadowed an outstanding game by Dawson, who was the only MSU player in double figures. á The 6-9 center scored 22 points with 13 rebounds, four steals, two blocked shots and two assists. Houston added nine points and Chad Rickett came off the bench with eight points for the Mustangs. West Texas A&M was paced by Damien Lolar who collected 29 points with 10 boards and a block. á Tyler Cooper, son of WT coach Rick Cooper, added 16 points and nine boards, while Govinda Thomas-Carter posted 15 points and Kyle Shields 11. MSU continues its road swing on Saturday against Eastern New Mexico, who lost 75-69 to Tarleton State in Portales, N.M., on Wednesday. The game is set to start about 8 p.m., following the women's game that starts at 6 p.m.
