Tarleton State snaps MSU homecourt win streak 67-61

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Tarleton State University guard LaShon Sheffield buried a three with 5:26 to play to give the Texans a lead they wouldn't relinquish as TSU downed Midwestern State University 67-61 Tuesday night in Lone Star Conference South action at Stockton Court in Ligon Coliseum.MSU (11-6, 0-2) had built a pair of five-point advantages in the second half before Tarleton (13-4, 2-0) went on a 10-2 run capped by Sheffield's three to grab the lead. But the dagger in the heart of MSU came with 2:07 to play when Tarleton, leading by just two, saw Sheffield hit a baseline three with one second on the shot clock to regain a five-point lead. TSU controlled the action the rest of the game. Midwestern was paced by a career-game from senior LaKeith Grant who chalked up 19 points, 14 in the second half hitting 6-of-7 from the floor in the final frame. á Eric Dawson, who saw limited first half time due to foul trouble, collected his seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Tarleton got 23 points from Sheffield, with John Davis tallying 18 points and 14 rebounds. á Nic Gamble added 17 points with six boards for the Texans. The loss snapped MSU's 10-game homecourt winning streak and closed season series with the Texans. MSU must quickly recover, as the Mustangs face Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday night at Stockton Court in Ligon Coliseum in LSC South play.
