MSU welcomes transfer Coffman
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State University men's basketball coach Jeff Ray announced that former Midland Lee star Drew Coffman has transferred to MSU from Texas Tech University .
Coffman, a 6-1 guard, played in 11 games and started four this season for the Red Raiders, averaging 4.3 points and 2.5 assists in 14.8 minutes. á He hit 13-of-30 three-point shots, 43.3 percent, and was shooting 44.1 percent from the floor for the season.
He scored 22 points in leading Tech to an 83-74 win against Furman, hitting 6-of-9 from the arc.
"Drew is a highly skilled athlete that will fit well in our system," Ray commented. á "He is a great three point shooter and should help fill that need for next season."
"I'm very excited he is a part of our program."
He played in 25 of the 33 games for Texas Tech last season, averaging 9.8 minutes a game. á He averaged 3.0 points and 1.0 rebound a game. á He nailed 13-of-32 shots from the three-point arc (40.6 percent) and hit 40.4 percent from the field as a whole (21-of-52). á He was also 20-of-24 from the free throw line for 83.3 percent.
Coffman will not play for MSU the rest of this season and will have one full season of eligibility remaining for the 2006-07 campaign. The son of Mark and Darla Coffman, Drew earned second-team all-state honors at Midland Lee as a senior, after gaining third-team all-state honors as a junior. A two-time district MVP and Permian Basin Player of the Year, Coffman averaged 31.4 points, 7.2 assists and 5.6 rebounds a game as a senior. á He posted individual game-high marks of 50 points 14 assists and 14 rebounds while at Midland Lee.
