MSU men blast Cameron 87-52
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State University Mustangs never trailed and were tied only at 2-2 as they totally dominated the Cameron University Aggies 87-52 Thursday night at Gerald Stockton Court in D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
Midwestern (8-5) played like a team that had already played twice since the holiday break, while Cameron (6-4) looked like a team playing it's first game since Dec. 17.
MSU handed Cameron it's worst defeat of the season with the 35-point loss and scored the most points against CU this season, including an exhibition with TCU and a regular season game against Texas-San Antonio.
Five Midwestern players scored in double-figures, led by Tate Lombard's 18 points, tying his season-best.á Eric Dawson added 17 points with eight rebounds, but failed to get a blocked shot in 19 minutes.á Chad Rickett posted 12 points off the bench, while starters Tilmon Gaddy and LaKeith Grant each tallied 10 points, with Gaddy adding seven boards.
Chris Francois led MSU on the glass with nine rebounds as the Mustangs out boarded the Aggies 52-32.
Cameron was led by Matthew Reid with 14 points and five boards, while Marlon Bernard tallied 11 points with six rebounds and Curtis Ison posted 10 points.á Arthur Trousdell tallied six rebounds for CU as well.
The game was close for the first nine minutes of the first half.á When CU's Eric Moore nailed a three with 10:56 to play, MSU held a 12-11 advantage.
But Rickett responded with a three off the fast break just 10 seconds later and started a 12-1 run over the next four minutes to build a 13-point lead.
Cameron cut it to five with 3:35 to play, but MSU closed the half on an 11-2 run and never led by less than a dozen points the rest of the game.
