Eastern New Mexico trips up MSU Men 79-72

PORTALES, N.M. -- á A 10-0 run á by the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds in the last five minutes spelled doom for the Midwestern State University Mustangs as ENMU posted a 79-72 victory Saturday night at Greyhound Arena.

MSU fell to 0-5 in the Lone Star Conference South with the loss and 11-9 overall, while Eastern went to 8-11 overall and 2-2 in conference action.

Midwestern built a 10-point lead in the first half and five-point leads in the second, only to have ENMU go on runs to regain the lead.

Eastern hit 23-of-51 shots from the floor, 45 percent, but buried 9-of-15 shots from the three-point arc. á The Hounds also connected on 24-of-27 free throws.

Midwestern outshot ENMU by connecting on 30-of-62 from the floor, 48 percent, but managed only 3-of-15 or 20 percent from three land. á MSU went cols in the second half from the line, hitting just 9-of-18.

The loss spoiled the career night of senior LaKeith Grant, who led all scorers with a career-high 24 points and added eight rebounds. á Junior Eric Dawson collected 21 points with just six rebounds, but recorded seven steals, five assists and three blocked shots.

Freshman Russell Button added nine points for MSU.

ENMU got 22 points from Tristan Largent, with Mikal Monette scoring 14 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. á Travis Carr came off the bench with 11 points for the Greyhounds.

MSU, who has now lost four straight games, concludes a three-game road schedule on Wednesday at Angelo State. á Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. following the contest between the MSU and ASU women.
