MSU Men beat Southwestern Oklahoma 70-56
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State University men used a 28-10 run over the last 12 minutes of the first half to take a lead they would never relinquish as they defeated Southwestern Oklahoma State 70-56 Saturday night in Lone Star Conference divisional crossover play at Stockton Court in Ligon Coliseum.
áMSU (6-2) trailed Southwestern (2-8) 20-12 with 12:01 to play. á A Christopher Reay layup 16 seconds later started a 12-2 run for MSU over the next four minutes. á MSU took the lead for good at 24-22 on a Tilman Gaddy's layup at the 7:39 mark in the first half.
MSU led 40-32 at the half. á However SWOSU, who appeared in the NCAA Division II tournament last season, chipped away at the lead, trailing by only five with 12-and-a half minutes to play. á That's when MSU ripped off another 10-0 run in four minutes to eliminate all doubt about the outcome.
Midwestern State had only one player score in double-figures, as Eric Dawson just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. á Tate Lombard come off the bench with nine points, with Chad Rickett, LaKeith Grant and Reay all adding eight points.
Southwestern Oklahoma got 18 points from Lonnie Cooks, with Reggie and Jon Gunn each chipping in eight points. á Jon Gunn led SWOSU with six boards.
The MSU men are off until Dec. 20, when they face nationally-ranked Catawba (N.C.) in the Hoop 'N Surf Classic in Honolulu.
