Incarnate Word beats MSU Women 77-74
ááááááááááá SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Midwestern State University women dropped a heartbreaking 77-74 decision at the University of the Incarnate Word on Friday afternoon at the McDermott Center.
ááááááááááá MSU (4-6) outrebounded UIW (2-9) 40-35 and were slightly better from the floor, hitting 41.9 percent to 41.4 percent, but suffered at the three-point arc where Incarnate Word nailed 6-of-11 compared to the Mustangs 3-of-12.
ááááááááááá Midwestern held a 35-33 advantage at the half, but battled back and forth with the Lady Cardinals throughout most of the second half.
ááááááááááá But following after MSU gained a 51-50 lead on a Sara Stahmer jumper, UIW got a three from Danielle Farriel with 8:10 to play to give Incarnate a lead it wouldn't relinquish.
ááááááááááá Midwestern had a shot to tie at game's end, but a three by LaTia Banks went off and gave UIW the victory.
ááááááááááá Midwestern State was paced by the play of Katherine Maples who collected a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds.á Kelly Cleavinger chipped in 12 points as the only other MSU player in double figures.
ááááááááááá Incarnate Word was pace by Farriel who collected 22 points, going 3-of-3 from the three-point arc.á Kim Robinson added 21 points with eight rebounds, with Erika Pink adding 15 points and nine boards.á Elise Denoux chipped in 11 points for the Lady Cardinals.
ááááááááááá MSU is back in action on Tuesday night at Tarleton State in Lone Star Conference South Division play.á The game, the first of a doubleheader with the MSU men, tips at 6 p.m.
