Cameron downs MSU women 72-65
WICHITA FALLS Texas - Facing each other for the second time in two weeks, Cameron University handed the women of Midwestern State University defeat for a second time with a 72-65 triumph at
MSU (3-4) led most of the first half, but an 11-2 run by Cameron (3-5) in the last 2:57 of the first half gave the Lady Aggies a lead that they never relinquished.
CU had leads of 17 twice in the second half, the last with 11:17 to play when Midwestern made it's first move, closing the gap with its own 11-2 run in a three-and-a half minute stretch
Cameron jumped back up by 11 on a jumper by Shantel Whitaker with 6:08 to play, when MSU posted a quick 8-0 run on a jumper Sonya Courtney and threes by Stacey Staten and Katie Robertson in a minute-and-a half.
But the Lady Aggies countered with a 9-1 run in the next minute-and-a half and MSU couldn't answer again.
Midwestern was led by the play of Katherine Maples who posted a consecutive double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Robertson collected 14 points and Courtney nine.
Brittany Cooksey led Cameron with 22 points and eight rebounds, while Tiffany Williams added 12 points with six boards and Taylor Campbell 10 points.
The Midwestern women are off until Saturday night, when they host the first game of a men's and women's doubleheader against Southwestern Oklahoma;. Tipoff time is set for 6 p.m.
