MSU Women collect first road win of the season
ISLAMORADA, Fla. - The Midwestern State University women never trailed in the second half and led most of the game in a 73-60 victory over Nova Southeastern (Fla.) University in the consolation game of the Holiday Isle Classic Tuesday evening.
MSU (3-2) swapped the lead with NSU (3-3) through the first six minutes of the game. á That's when Midwestern, down 12-9 at that point, started a 10-2 run over the next four minutes on a Katie Robertson three-pointer that tied the game and never trailed again.
Midwestern took a 34-23 lead into the half and used a 14-4 run during a six-minute stretch in the second half to keep NSU from striking back.
MSU got 18 points from junior Brandi Bush and 17 points along with six rebounds from senior Katherine Maples to lead the way. á The pair combined to shoot 16-of-17 from the floor, Bush hitting 9-of-10 and Maples 7-of-7 as they helped MSU to a 54 percent shooting day from the floor.
Nova Southeastern got 13 points from Missy Guadagnino, 12 each from Katie Cloud and Donya Glover to go with 11 points and eight rebounds from Jennifer Havens.
MSU held Nova to 37 percent from the floor for the game, and outscored NSU 42-26 in the paint.
The win was the first away from Ligon Coliseum since Nov. 27, 2004, when MSU downed Lincoln(Mo.) 86-63 in the ACU/CHI Classic in Abilene
Midwestern is off until Saturday when it plays it's first crossover double-header with the MSU men on Saturday in Durant, Okla., against Southeastern Oklahoma State. á The women's game tips at 6 p.m.
