MSU Student produced documentary wins first place at National Collegiate Broadcasters
A documentary produced by students in the Midwestern State University Mass Communication Department won first place in the national Collegiate Broadcasters Inc. competition, held last weekend at Kansas City.
"The Golden Hour," a documentary about the AirVac Life Team in Texoma, won the Best Special Broadcast award. The program was produced by MSU students Jason Calder, Jennifer Tavlian and Jessica Weiss.
CBI is a national organization with around 250 members, and this annual competition drew 374 entries from all over the United States.
MSU students have been finalists in the competition for each of the last six years, but this is the first time a MSU production has won.
"This is a huge honor for the students and the program," Mass Communication Department Chair Jim Sernoe said. "We compete with schools several times our size, including LSU and UT-Austin. I've said many times that even though we are not as well known, I would put my best students up against any in the country. This award shows that we can compete successfully with anyone."
