Midwestern Women down East Central 73-61
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Midwestern State University women ran their record to 2-0 on the season as they defeated Lone Star Conference North foe East Central Okla.73-61 in the MSU Classic Saturday night at Stockton Court in D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
MSU shot 48 percent from the three-point arc, hitting 10-of-21 as MSU shot 46 percent for the game. MSU held ECU (0-3) to 42 percent from the floor, including 3-of-12 from the three point arc.
Midwestern was paced by Angie Faurot who scored 20 points, hitting 4-of-5 from the arc as part of 7-of-11 from the floor. Tia Banks, Katie Robertson, Stacey Staten and Katherine Maples all added 10 points, with Maples just missing a double-double with nine rebounds.
ECU's Kristie Dodgion posted 16 points and nine rebounds, while Tenecia Miller added 14 poionts and Kiesha Thomas 10. Jastin Flenory led all rebounders with 10 boards.
It wasn't easy for MSU.
East Central started the game with an 8-0 run in the first three-and-a half minutes. MSU chipped away at the Lady Tiger lead and tied the game with 9:13 to play on a Faurot three-pointer.
That was the first of three consecutive treys for MSU, as a steal by Robertson set up another Faurot three. A Staten triple made it a 9-0 run in a minute and MSU never looked back.
Midwestern State takes on Red River rival Cameron in Lawton, Okla., on Tuesday in a 7 p.m. matchup.
